I believe that pop culture is a great theme for composition. Most students are very familiar with pop culture, and will most likely understand the topic on it from the inside out. It will not only aid them on becoming better writers but also aid them on wanting to write about something that they're interested on. Pop culture is a great theme for composition because it gives the writer the oportunity to write about something they can relate to and understand better than anyone else.
Pop culture is just about any source of media thats around us. this includeds things like music, movies, art, books and current events. All of this information is analized by students every single day. Students are comming out of movie theaters analizing the whole movie, or look into a painting and start wondering why it captures their attention. I think that there are times were we, as students, are understimated on our capabilities on how we desifer information that is presented to us. Writing compositions about pop culture is a great way to prove what we can do as youngh writers.
I might not be a great writer or a good one at that, but if a there is a theme I really enjoy writing about I will make sure I've done my best. I can write about music or art for hours if I wanted to. Its an easy espect of popular culture that interests me to my soul. I can write about it as if they were a master piece. Some people might not understant it the way I do or might interpret it in another way. This also makes writers give part of their personality to their writing.
I talked to a friend from work about the classes I was taking this year in college, and I mentioned that I was taking a English class on popular culture. The first thing he said to me was"why study something that is constantly changing". I really didnt know how to answer that. the question made my mind wonder the whole day. I was trying to answer this question, but it only lead to more questions. I'm curious about pop culture now. I never gave the class a second though. I'm curious about what I can learn from pop culture. What values can we learn from shows like Family Guy or any other show? what can we take from music or art? This made me realize all the different topics and themes that can be explored through pop culture. Not only will it be interesting to write about, but also interesting to read.
